Gardening with God

“For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6:8-10‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Sowing seeds in Gods garden.

Jesus in His teaching on many occasions compares us to plants, now we know obviously that we are not plants we are much more valuable than them in Gods eyes….

If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

….but the comparison is one to stop and think about!

I have thought about this many times before but especially this year as I planted seeds with my babies…

I am not a gardener, so really this whole gardening thing is a learning process for me… once before when it was just me and our oldest son I planted seeds with him and I would say it was a successful garden for it being my first one,

This year about 7 years later roughly, would be my second time ever seed starting.

So here is what I have learned from gardening with God 🌱☀️

Let’s start with the most simple of the gardening rules,

Seeds need soil, light and water to grow. Simply stated.

So we start with making our plants a good home

Taken from the Book “Easy Peasy Gardening for Kids” By Kristen Bradley

“Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

Therefore hear the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13:3-9, 18-23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In our soil we plant seeds, or seeds get planted…

Everyday we are planting seeds in life.

Sometimes I find myself getting impatient expecting to see a plant right after the seed has been planted.

But you see this takes time, it’s one thing to see a sprout, but another to see fruit from the plant. This all takes time, and two essential sources that we did not create….

which are water, and light. With out these two very necessary things our seeds simply won’t grow, or survive.

“Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.””
‭‭John‬ ‭4:13-14‬ ‭NKJV

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

We need water, and light to survive this life, to grow, but not only that we also need nourishment, we need to feed ourselves on the Living and powerful word of God, to become fruitful, Christian people who will inherit eternal life.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:22-25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

So back to the beginning of this post gardening with God like planting seeds in our Gardens we are planting seeds but not only that we are also like plants,

Some of us may be new plants just starting to grow into who God would have us to be.

Some of us, are just now seeds being planted in the soil.

Some of us are seeds that have sprouted, grown and may be lacking water and sunlight.

Some of us are grown plants being choked out and troubled by the world around us.

Some of us are strong fruitful plants.

Some of us are busy taking care of our seedlings that we forget too that we are also plants and need nourishment, light and water just as much.

Some of us may not be sure yet which of these categories we fall under.

The point is in Gods garden, we must realize how much all of this matters. If it makes sense with gardening it should make sense for ourselves as well.

“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3:14-21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
